Green Arches

ADULT: Wingspan - 40 - 50mm. When fresh this moth is up there with the best of them as regards appealing appearance. The somewhat green, white and black marbled wings are a sight to behold with other characteristic features being the green thorax with a rusted tuft and the uniform grey hindwings with whitish fringes. The pattern on the forewings provides excellent camouflage on lichen covered trees. CHRYSALIS: Found underground. LARVA: Overwinters in this stage. Feeds on a variety of herbaceous plants such as primroses, brambles and honeysuckle. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: Mainly broadleaved woodland. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. June to July. STATUS: Common throughout mainland Britain.
